Long‐Term Performance and Shade Detection in Building Integrated Photovoltaic Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) operate in a unique environment compared with field-mounted systems and may experience elevated temperatures recurrent or persistent shading. These stresses are expected to accelerate degradation, but there few performance reports for true BIPV as defined IEC 63092-1. Herein, the long-term (over 5–10 years) of 55 Switzerland is reported. Using year-on-year (YOY) loss rate (PLR) analysis, median degradation all together (fleet-wide) determined be 0.06% per year (i.e., essentially no degradation), though large spread rates. Visual inspection indicated that some shaded at times, so fault detection diagnosis algorithm (FDDA) developed estimate shading severity using their daily production profiles. The fraction time presents linear trend upper limit PLRs, by itself it not strong predictor system performance. On average, degree found increase newer systems, decrease larger capacity systems. results highlight importance alleviating through innovative module design.

The widespread use of building integrated photovoltaics appears likely as a result of the continuing decline in photovoltaic manufacturing costs, the relative ease in which photovoltaics can be incorporated within the building envelope, and the fact that buildings account for over 40 percent of the U.S. energy consumption. However, designers, architects, installers, and consumers need more info...
